Don't freeze to death as you search for your house in the snowy winter woods. You have an axe and a gun, and you must make you're way around.

EDIT: the browser version makes audio a bit strange, I'd suggest you try downloading the game, and sorry Linux people I didn't upload a build before the jam ended...

Im wondering how did you do the lighting i tried the shader didnt work with light?

(+1)

I used a SubviewportContainer with the shader on it, which had as a child a Subviewport which parented the entire game. That way, everything in the game would get sent through the shader, which would essentially just replace the colours on screen with my palette, and this approach also lets me force the game to maintain a 64x64 resolution without the window being minuscule. Hope this helps!

Thanks!!!

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't find the house? After wandering through the map for a while, and eating through the night, I haven't seen any indication of where I should be going. Otherwise, the game was enjoyable. Interactions with objects was a bit jank

Yeah, sometimes the generation of the house will be a bit strange, it's always at a set distance but in a random direction. I was considering adding a waypoint but that might make it too easy. At least you found it fun, sorry the interaction was a bit jank i didnt set it up entirely the best way possible. Either way, thanks for the comment and the constructive criticism!

ahh, I see - my first run I just ran in one direction for like 5 minutes. Maybe a map border would've helped lol. Loved the artstyle, especially with the way you decided to show text

thanks!

this was so cool! I really liked the death sequence. great job, your art style is very unique and I enjoyed the game.

Thank you so much!

I think this style came out because of the color palette shader I used, its really great and I owe a bunch to it for the visuals of this game:

Palette I used -> https://lospec.com/palette-list/ty-ice-cold-12

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Hey! I played 4 playthroughs of this. For 3 of them, I died during night 1 due to the campfire burning out, and I lived to see the house on the 4 one because it was near the campfire and realized it before the place went dark... so days survived is probably 0, but I do enjoy it. I love the effects of day and night against the fire, as it helps make it feel like the fire is warm. I have a few suggestions (whether you add them or not after the voting period doesn't matter to me. Either way, your game was enjoyable and I felt like I was progressing through something.):

  • Add a key bind setting.
  • Maybe add some sounds playing in the background (and maybe a volume setting).
  • Add another log maybe? I don't know if it's just because I'm garbage, but I can't seem to get through the night with 4 logs max.

If you spent the time reading this, thanks for reading! Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!

Thanks!

I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and if I were to go through with it and make a real project out of it I would certainly add keybind settings and some other sounds, etc. It was a game jam game, so I did my best but I appreciate the feedback and good job on finding your house, even if you couldn't entirely get through the night!
